Once you've decided which appliances are essential to your lifestyle, there are a few other
elements which you should think about before making your purchases.
Although your initial choice may be dictated by appearance, price and
where they've been manufactured, you should also consider energy ratings.
These run alphabetically from A-G (A being the most energy efficient - G being the
least) and should be clearly marked on all new appliances when you go to view them in the showroom.
It's a legal requirement imposed on the supplier to display them clearly, so that the end-user can
make an informed choice as to which appliance to buy. If you can't see the energy rating displayed
on a particular item which you're interested in - ask to see it. It's your right under the law.
Whilst the most energy-efficient models may be more expensive to buy at the outset,
they should be much cheaper to run in the long term. It may be worth a trip to your local library
to do some homework first, by comparing various makes and models in magazines such as Which.
