Your kitchen tap is one of the hardest working pieces of equipment in your
home. Whether it's washing-up, filling the kettle or washing salads and vegetables, it's used all
day every day. It's therefore essential to buy a tap that's not only esthetically pleasing, but
also built to last.
There are two main types of tap available:
-
Single Lever - these are mixer taps which allow you to control
the water flow and temperature with one hand, leaving your other hand
free. Levers can either be mounted on the top or at the side of the tap body.
-
Two Handle - a classic two-handle tap adapts to any
kitchen style. They have individual hot & cold levers or knobs to control the
flow of hot and cold water independently of each other.
-
Tap Finishes - stainless steel and chrome-plated brass taps complement
all styles of kitchen. Chrome adds a highlight to natural stone and composite sinks and
worktops. Whilst stainless steel gives a professional look and has known anti-bacterial
properties. Other finishes are available, for that 'traditional' look, such as polished
brass and coloured enamel.

Buying cheap taps is a false economy, because you'll probably have to replace them within a few
years, whereasa top quality tap will last best part of a life-time. If your budget is tight, try
and spend a little less on some other area of your new kitchen, rather than skimp on your taps.
Before buying your new taps, make sure that your water pressure is up to the job. Most modern
taps require a water pressure of at least 1.0 bar in order to work correctly.
